Veer Savarkar
New Delhi: Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha president Swami Chakrapani on Friday announced to install a statue of freedom fighter Veer Savarkar infront of the Congress headquarters at Akbar Road.
The Hindu Mahasabha leader also asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to rename Akbar Road as Veer Savarkar Road in honour of the freedom fighter.
Chakrapani also pushed for the Bharat Ratna award for the late Hindutva ideologue.
Swami Chakrapani made the demands after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi targeted Veer Savarkar claiming that he helped the British rulers and wrote a mercy petition to them out of fear.
A huge controversy has erupted over Rahul Gandhi’s statement against Veer Savarkar. Addressing a press conference, the Congress leader showed a paper to the media persons, claiming it was a letter written by the late Hindutva ideologue to the British.
“I will read the last line, which says ‘I beg to remain your most obedient servant’ and is signed V D Savarkar,” Gandhi said.
