Chennai: RSS has charged that religious conversions have become a ‘national threat’ and called for measures to control such conversions. RSS leaders who spoke at a public meeting held at the end of a 5km rally in Puducherry on Sunday, alleged that in the past only one particular caste among Hindus was targeted for religious conversion. But now people from all castes are being targeted by those aiming to convert them.
The rally was taken out from Veerampattinam to Ariyankuppam to commemorate the commencement of the 99th foundation year of RSS, to celebrate the 200th birth anniversary of saint Vallalar and to remember the nationalistic ideas of swami Vivekananda and B R Ambedkar.
A public meeting was organised at Ariyankuppam where the rally culminated. “Religious conversions are happening across the country and Hindus are being targeted. It is a national danger and people should be safeguarded,” said RSS’s North Tamil Nadu organising secretary S Saravanan.
“Earlier, only a particular caste was targeted, but now all the castes are targeted,” he said. “Swami Vivekananda dreamt of an organisation for Hindus and RSS fulfilled it. He asked for 100 trained youth for the development of the country and RSS is training lakhs of youth for the country,” said Saravanan. More than 500 RSS workers participated in the rally which went off peacefully. In Tamil Nadu too RSS has been launching a legal battle to organise similar rallies across the state.
