Gyanvapi mosque
Lucknow: In a fresh controversy related to Shringar Gauri worship case, the management committee of the Gyanvapi mosque has said that it will oppose the decision of a local court to conduct videography as its side of the argument was not heard.
Opposing the videography order by the court, SM Yasin, joint secretary of Anjuman Intejamiya Masjid Managing Committee, said that none will be allowed to enter the mosque to conduct the videography.
“We will not allow anyone to enter the mosque for videography and survey. The managing committee of the Gyanvapi mosque will oppose this decision of the court,” Yasin said.
Earlier, a court had directed to conduct a comprehensive physical survey of the Gyanvapi mosque compound adjacent to the Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi.
The court had directed the officials to conduct the videography and survey of the Gyanvapi mosque on May 6 and 7.
On April 26, 2022, the court of Civil Judge (Senior Division) of Varanasi, Ravi Kumar Diwakar, had ordered videography by the advocate commissioner of the Shringar Gauri temple in the Kashi Vishwanath-Gyanvapi mosque complex and other places after Eid and before May 10.
Meanwhile, reacting to the Yasin’s opposition, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Vinod Bansal said such comments are contempt of court.
On April 8, 2021, a court had ordered an ASI survey to investigate the mosque premises. However, the Allahabad High Court had stayed the Varanasi lower court order directing the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to conduct a comprehensive physical survey of the Gyanvapi mosque.
The petitioners, on behalf of the ancient idol of Swayambhu Lord Vishweshwar, had contended that the Mughal ruler Aurangzeb had destroyed the temple and built a mosque on its remains.
In 1991, a petition was submitted seeking restoration of the temple at the site where the Gyanvapi Mosque currently stands.
