Uttar Pradesh: Dalit boy tied to pole & thrashed on suspicion of stealing Rs 600 (The Times of India)

BAREILLY: A 14-year-old Dalit boy was tied to an electric pole and mercilessly thrashed for several hours for allegedly stealing Rs 600 from a grocery store in Kalaan area of UP’s Shahjahanpur district.

A purported video of the incident, which was reported on August 22, was shot by one of the villagers and later uploaded on social media, following which police took cognisance and registered an FIR under the SC/ST Act.

In the clip, the boy can be seen tied to a pole and being beaten with sticks. Mukesh Kumar, who runs the shop, is being questioned, police said on Saturday.
The boy, whose parents work as daily wagers, said, “I went to purchase groceries from a local shop and returned home. After a while, the shop owner came to my house and started slapping and abusing me. He alleged that I had stolen money from his shop.”
