Molested & filmed, Dalit girl ends life in Rajasthan, kin alleges police inaction

The family members of a Dalit girl, who allegedly ended her life after being molested, has alleged that the cops are trying to protect the accused.

Udaipur: A Dalit girl in Rajasthan’s Udaipur ended her life after she was allegedly molested, threatened and filmed. Over a week after the girl’s death, her family has claimed that the investigating officer of the case is shielding the accused.

Allegedly, the girl took her own life by suicide on October 7 and her obscene video went viral on October 5. As per the deceased girl’s father, she was raped and threatened by a boy.

Cops shielding accused 

The girl’s father approached the Saira police and lodged an FIR on October 8. On October 14, the girl’s family wrote to the IG and SP of Udaipur, accusing the Saira police of shielding the accused and urging them to negotiate with him.

In a recent viral video, the girl’s father could be heard threatening to commit suicide with his family if justice is denied to them. As per Udaipur SP Rajeev Pachaar, the police acted on the complaint and arrested the accused from Ahmedabad, The Times of India reported.

Accused was in relationship with girl 

Pachaar said that the police had recovered from photographs from the accused’s mobile phone and the girl’s autopsy was conducted. The SP added that the girl’s family lodged a complaint on the day of the post-mortem. He said that several people were present on that day but no objection was raised by the girl’s family.

He said that the girl’s relative alleged abetment by the accused around 4-5 days after the complaint was lodged. While a probe is being conducted to ascertain if the abetment claim is true, the accused has confessed to being in a relationship with the girl. Pachaar added, “We are also investigating the allegations against the SHO of Saira police station.  ”
