Jamshedpur: A 30-year-old man died and his 28-year-old friend was seriously injured when they were attacked by a mob for ferrying a “stolen” LPG cylinder on the bike they were riding in the Jehar Tola slum under the Sidhgora police station here in the early hours on Monday. Police said about 30 people intercepted the two bike-borne men when they were riding through the alley carrying the “stolen” LPG cylinder.

When the two failed to explain what they were doing with the cylinder, it made the mob even more angry.

They were then mercilessly punched, kicked and beaten with sticks.

Sidhgora police personnel, who arrived at the spot on being alerted by an anonymous caller, rescued the injured men from the frenzied crowd and rushed them to the MGMMCH in serious condition. One of the injured, 30-year-old, Aman Munda, succumbed to the injuries when he was undergoing treatment while Sanjeet Dhan is now stable but under treatment. Both are residents of the Baridih area of the town.
