Man held for beating Dalit for ‘Jai Bhim’ (The Times of India)

Gaya: One Naveen Kumar was arrested under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act for allegedly beating, abusing and passing casteist remarks and threatening a youth of village Chapardah under Amas police station area in Gaya district on Sunday.

The victim was allegedly beaten for using ‘Jai Bhim’ on his facebook profile, which reportedly irked the accused persons, who pressurized him to shun his ideal and instead follow their ideology. They also allegedly beat up him with sticks causing injury to his hands, legs, face and head. He is undergoing treatment at Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College and Hospital.

“Mita Devi of Chapardah lodged a complaint with Amas police station on Sunday against Naveen and his associates for beating an abusing her son Roshan Kumar (21),” SSP Ashish Bharti said on Tuesday.

“Naveen, son of Ramashish Yadav of village Bajitpur under Amas police station area, has been made accused under different sections of IPC and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Amas SHO Mrityunjay Kumar has been directed to arrest the other accused too,” the SSP added.
