Mahadalit beaten to death by neighbours in Bihar (The Times of India)

SARAM: Close on the heels of a teenage Dalit girl’s murder for plucking gram leaves in the district last week, a Mahadalit man was beaten to death allegedly by his neighbours over a minor dispute at Mahuar village under Ramgardh police station area of Kaimur district in the wee hours of Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as Munib Ram (45). Five named accused have been arrested in the case. Both the families belong to the same caste.

The police said the incident was a fallout of an enquiry made by Munib’s mother Muniya Kunwar on Tuesday about the firewood carried by her neighbour Rambabu on his bicycle. That irked the family members of Rambabu so much that they indulged in a scuffle with Munib’s family. Somehow, they were pacified. But Rambabu with his family members and supporters reached Munib’s house around 3am and allegedly dragged him out of his sleep from inside the hut. They allegedly assaulted Munib with lathis, SHO Shashi Bhushan Kumar said.
