HASSAN: A father-son duo from thte Dalit community were allegedly abused and attacked by a group of villagers for selling sugarcane juice by the roadside in Hassan‘s Arkalgud taluk on Sunday.

Based on a complaint lodged with Konanur police on Monday, police said Chandru, 50, and Nitin, 22, from Rudrapattana, sustained injuries in the attack. Six persons from Gangur village have been named in the FIR.

According to police, the father and son have been selling sugarcane juice by the roadside near Gangur village for the past six months. Others, too, were selling juice at the spot. A couple of villagers who own plantations in the area asked the Dalit man to move away and this led to heated arguments a fortnight ago. The Dalit man then temporarily shifted his business out of that place, police said.

On Sunday, the father-son duo returned to the spot with the juice cart. There was another argument with some villagers, who attacked them.
