Cop arrested for Dalit’s death at Rajkot hospital (Indian Express)

Deceased was semi-conscious when he was released from the police station

Assistant sub-inspector Ashwin Kangad was arrested in Rajkot on Monday in connection with the death of Hamir alias Gopal Rathod, a Dalit, allegedly due to police torture. He was sent to two-day police custody by a local court on Tuesday.

Kangad, attached to Malaviyanagar police station in Rajkot, was arrested by B J Chaudhary, Assistant Commissioner of Police (South Division) of Rajkot city police.

“He was produced in a court today with an application seeking his remand for two days. The court granted our plea,” Sudhir Desai, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone II) of Rajkot city police said.
