PATNA: Opposition members, particularly those from the Congress, the CPI-ML and the AIMIM, staged protest demonstrations outside the premises of Bihar Vidhan Sabha on the opening day of the budget session on Friday against the recent suspected lynching of a JD(U) leader by cow vigilantes in Samastipur district and a provocative statement of a ruling BJP legislator.

Several MLAs of the Congress, the CPI-ML and the AIMIM formed separate rows and stood outside the assembly premises before formal beginning of the budget session inside the House and shouted slogans, demanding Rs 50 lakh as compensation to the family of Mohammad Khaleel Rizvi who was abducted and killed allegedly by a group of cow vigilantes. Rizvi’s charred body was found buried in a pit inside a private poultry farm in Samastipur district recently.

The opposition members were also holding placards and big posters condemning the “provocative statement” of ruling BJP MLA Hari Bhushan Thakur in which he demanded the withdrawal of voting rights of the Muslim community.
While the CPI-ML members led by their leaders Mehboob Alam and Sudama Prasad asked the Nitish Kumar-led government to stop converting Bihar into a “region of lynching”, the AIMIM lawmakers demanded capital punishment to the killers of JD(U) leader Khaleel Rizvi by ensuring speedy trial in his case.
The AIMIM state president Akhtarul Iman told TOI that Sections related to mob lynching have not been included in the FIR registered in connection with the mob lynching of Rizvi. He demanded inclusion of mob lynching related sections of the IPC in the FIR.
