Caught on cam: Dalit youth thrashed to death in Rajasthan; 11 booked

A video purportedly showing a Dalit youth being ruthlessly beaten with sticks by a group of men in Rajasthan has gone viral on social media platforms.

Jaipur: A youth belonging to the Dalit community was allegedly beaten to death by a group of people in Rajasthan’s Hanumangarh on Thursday. Police inquiries revealed that a love affair led to the crime, a video of which has gone viral on social media platforms.

As per the case details, the youth was last seen in his village at around 4:30 pm on Thursday. Late in the evening, his dead body was found. His family had no clue how he died until a video showing him being severely assaulted by some men went viral on social media. In the video, the accused could be seen mercilessly thrashing the Dalit youth with sticks.

Based on a complaint, a case has been registered against 11 named persons under relevant provisions. Of them, four have been rounded up by the police. Meanwhile, the family members and local residents gathered and staged a protest, refusing to perform the final rites of the victim’s body.

Demanding justice for the victim, a local resident said the protest will continue until all accused are arrested by the police. “The youth’s parents were dependent on him. The accused brutally thrashed him to death and later dumped his body near his house to spread fear,” he said.

This comes weeks after a video showing two cops thrashing a differently-abled man in full public view in the state’s Bhilwara district went viral on social media. As per reports, the differently-abled man was selling slippers outside a temple in Bhilwara. He was ruthlessly thrashed by the two policemen in front of hoards of onlookers following an argument with them over the removal of his make-shift shop from the spot.
