18-year-old Mohammed Ejrail from Motihari in Bihar was attacked on Tuesday after he refused to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’. Ejrail is put in intensive care with injuries from stab on his neck and head made by Bajrang Dal members.
Relatives accuse that police haven’t registered any case regarding the incident even after hours have passed. Ejrail claims that he could identify four of the attackers.
The incident took place in Mehsi village of Motihari, where Ejrail was walking to a friend’s house to charge his phone.
“I was on the way, near the Mathni turn, Gopal stopped me. he had some friends with him, he forcefully asked me to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram slogan’ I denied” Ejrail told Maktoob.
Angered by his refusal to chant the ‘Jai Shri Ram’, at least ten members attacked him and left him unconscious on the road. Ejrail is currently admitted in a hospital in Jeevandhara.
Ejrail named Gopal along with his accomplices Manish, Golu, and Anshu as the attackers. All of them are known members of Bajrang Dal, according to Ejrail’s friends.
Tensions that brewed in Mehsi village right after Eid between the Muslims and Hindutva groups were settled to maintain peace.
There has been a surge in lynching cases in India since BJP, the Hindu nationalist party, came into power. Forced chanting of ‘Jai Shri Ram’, a slogan adopted as a political war-cry by Hindutva groups, has become a common lead to attack Muslims by RSS affiliated groups.
