A controversy has erupted amid Uttar Pradesh Board exams with some students insisting on wearing burqas to the exam centres. According to News18 Hindi reports, in Jaunpur, four Muslim students insisted on taking the exam while wearing burqas. When prevented, their families took them home, refusing to let them sit for the exam without their faces covered. A similar incident has now reportedly come up in Moradabad, where a commotion arose concerning girls wearing burqas.
When the Class 10 students were asked to remove their hijabs during the security check, they protested. The situation escalated, with students reportedly declaring they would rather leave the examination hall rather than remove their hijabs. Family members of the protesting students also claimed that the girls were being prevented from entering the examination hall while wearing hijabs.
Subsequently, the matter was escalated to the District Inspector of Schools (DIOS). Devendra Kumar, the Moradabad DIOS, arrived at YPN Inter College in Thana Bhojpur and intervened in the situation. Approximately 15 minutes after the examination commenced, the girls were granted permission to proceed with the exam.
DIOS Devendra Kumar instructed teachers that candidates are permitted to wear any attire without restriction and emphasised that no cheating should take place during the examination.
The incident took place at Bhojpur’s YPN Inter College. The girls were subsequently permitted to take the exam while wearing their hijabs after undergoing checks by female teachers.
