Woman, 19, burned to death for marrying dalit in Tamil Nadu (The Times of India)

THANJAVUR: A 19-year-old woman belonging to the kallar community in Thanjavur was burned to death by her father and relatives because she married a dalit, police said. The caste crime took place on January 3 and only after the husband lodged a complaint did police arrest the father and four of his relatives on Monday.

B Naveen, 19, a dalit, had married his school mate Ishwarya on December 31 with the help of their friends in Tirupur, where Naveen, who has a diploma in mechanical engineering, was working in a garment company. The couple then rented a house at Veerapandi in Tirupur district.
