HYDERABAD: Telangana BJP chief G Kishan Reddy on Sunday announced that, if voted to power, the saffron party will not only cancel the 4% quota to certain backward members of the Muslim community in educational institutions and jobs, but also enhance OBC, SC and ST quota. He also said that the BJP government will be assertive and adopt a bulldozer policy like in Uttar Pradesh to crush the mafia, corrupt and rowdies in the Old City.
BJP has been professing to scrap the Muslim quota for a while now. In April, Union home minister Amit Shah, at a public meeting in Chevella, had promised to emulate the then Basavaraj Bommai government in Karnataka, scrap reservation for the minorities and distribute it among other marginalised sections.
Addressing party cadre at the state office on Sunday, Kishan Reddy, who is also Union tourism minister, said: “Injustice was meted out to BCs by Congress as its government in the past introduced the Muslim reservation unconstitutionally and BRS continued the policy after formation of Telangana in 2014. But once the BJP government is formed, we will reverse it and accommodate better reservation for other marginalised sections.”
