On March 5, an elderly Muslim man, Mafikul Islam, from Tofapur village in Farakka, Murshidabad district, was brutally assaulted by a Hindu woman on the Balurghat Express train.
The incident, which occurred during the train’s journey, has sparked widespread outrage after a video of the attack went viral on social media.
In the video, the woman is seen repeatedly slapping Mafikul Islam, who was traveling to work from Dhulian station to Malda, where he sells Ayurvedic medicines. The altercation began at Farakka station and quickly escalated into a physical confrontation.

The woman reportedly accused Mafikul Islam of filming her, though no evidence has surfaced to confirm that he was recording her.
According to Mafikul, he has little experience with mobile phones, and the woman grabbed his phone and smashed it before subjecting him to verbal abuse and physical assault.
