PRAYAGRAJ: The leaders of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (Kashi Prant) have written to Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath urging him to impose a ban on the sale of liquor, meat, eggs and fish within five kilometre radius of Sangam area in Prayagraj district.
VHP’s regional secretary (Gauraksha) Lal Mani Tiwari told TOI, “We have written to the chief minister Yogi Adityanath urging for a ban on the sale of liquor, meat, fish and eggs within five-kilometre radius of Sangam area since the faith of millions of Hindu devotees and pilgrims are attached with the pious Sangam — the confluence of Ganga, Yamuna and mythical Saraswati in Prayagraj Mela Pradhikaran Kshetra.
He further added, “Thousands of pilgrims and devotees from far across the globe arrive at Sangam every day to take a holy dip and pay obeisance to Maa Ganga and Maa Yamuna as the confluence of Ganga, Yamuna and the mythical Saraswati is a centre of faith of millions of Hindus.”
The VHP leadership has also urged the chief minister to take into account the religious importance of Prayargaj Teerth and direct district authorities to impose and strictly implement the ban, Tiwari added.
Our seers, saints and religious organisations have constantly been demanding the ban since the sale of meat and liquor hurts the sentiments of Hindu devotees going to Sangam, he further said.
“The Yogi Adityanath-led UP government has already banned the sale of liquor and meat in 10 square kilometre radius around Krishna Janmabhoomi, and we demand a similar ban in five-kilometre radius of Sangam area at Teerthraj Prayagraj,” VHP leaders said.
