Bijnor: Seven police personnel, including two sub-inspectors, have been booked for allegedly murdering a dalit youth here in an area under Noorpur police station on the orders of a local court.
Dharamveer Singh, Bijnor superintendent of police, said the probe has been handed over to the Chandpur circle officer.

According to sources, Nitu Kumar was caught for allegedly committing a theft in a house by villagers on July 12. They beat him up before handing him over to the police. The latter admitted him to the district hospital for medical examination, but he escaped from police custody. His body was found hanging from a tree on July 17.

Unable to convince police to lodge a complaint, Nitu’s father Jaipal Singh moved the court alleging that his son had been murdered by the policemen.

The court ordered registration of a case against the accused policemen, including SIs Shahjad Ali and Shiv Kumar, under IPC’s section 302 (murder).

Terming the allegations levelled against police as “baseless”, SP Dharamveer Singh said, “He (Nitu) killed himself. The Chandpur circle officer is probing the matter. The case will be expunged.”
