The UP police on Tuesday arrested a café owner in Moradabad for allegedly selling “beef burger”.
The police have also sealed the Afghan Café on Jama Masjid-Prince Road, run by Naved Qureshi (32), after finding the mention of beef burger on the menu.
The action was based on the complaint of Bajrang Dal leader Abhinav Bhatnagar.
Following the complaint, Mughalapura station in-charge Kuldeep Kumar visited the cafe on Tuesday and found mention of beef burger in the menu. He seized the menu and immediately sealed the cafe.
Bhatnagar, Moradabad unit convener of Bajrang Dal, and other activists of the Hindutva outfit, staged a protest at Mughalpura police station on Monday evening demanding the arrest of the café owner.
“Sale of beef burgers has hurt our religious sentiments. It is yet another attempt by a minority community member to provoke us. We will not tolerate such practice aimed at vitiating the communal amity of the town,” Bhatnagar said.
