GHAZIABAD: An Urdu teacher visiting a society in Crossings Republik for private tuition on Tuesday was allegedly abused and heckled by a resident in the common area, told to repeat aloud ‘Jai Shri Ram’, and eventually forced to get off the elevator.

Police said the resident, Manoj Kumar, was arrested on Wednesday and charged under BNS sections for wrongful restraint and intentional insult, among others.

Kumar (36) is a businessman.

The teacher, Mohammad Alamgir, told police that Kumar launched into an unprovoked verbal attack on him when he saw him waiting for the elevator on the ground floor of Panchsheel Wellington.

Alamgir told police Kumar “first looked at me in a strange manner” and asked him where he was going.
