The videography survey and inspection of the Maa Shringar Gauri Sthal at Varanasi’s Kashi Vishwanath-Gyanvapi complex begins on Friday amidst opposition from the management committee of the Gyanvapi mosque.
On the directives of the Civil Judge (Senior Division) of Varanasi, the videography is to be done on Friday and Saturday (6 and 7 May) under the supervision of Advocate commissioner Ajai Kumar.
“No one will be allowed to enter the mosque,” warned S M Yasin, joint secretary of Anjuman Intejamiya Masjid Managing Committee and the caretaker of Gyanvapi masjid.
The Shringar Gauri worship case was filed on April 18, 2021 by Delhi-based Rakhi Singh, Laxmi Devi, Sita Sahu and others demanding permission for daily worship and performing rituals at Shringar Gauri, Lord Ganesha, Lord Hanuman and Nandi located on the outer wall of the Gyanvapi mosque.
They had also sought to stop the opponents from causing any damage to the idols.
“We demand that even if the survey is to be held, the team should not enter behind the barricades nor should videography be done inside the premises of the mosque as both of these are prohibited by the regulations that govern the compound,” reads the statement by UP East wing of Students Islamic Organsiation of India.
“The court hasn’t specifically stated that the team should survey the interior of the mosque behind the barricades and thus if the administration forces the managing body of the mosque to allow the team inside the barricades, it will be a gross violation of justice. It will also lead to the rise of communal tensions and hurt the sentiments of the Muslim community in and around the region.”
