In Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar, a group of Kanwariyas vandalised a car carrying some Muslims and thrashed its driver on July 21, falsely alleging that the car had brushed against the ‘Kanwar’ carried by one of them during their yatra and damaged or desecrated it.
After a video of the incident appeared on social media, the police stated that the Kanwariyas launched the brutal attack for no reason and over a fake story. According to The Wire, the police lodged an FIR against ten to fifteen unknown Kanwariyas.
In the FIR, it is written that the Kanwariyas “intentionally” stopped the car and assaulted its driver “for no reason.” They were charged under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita related to voluntarily causing hurt, wrongful restraint, public nuisance, rioting, unlawful assembly, obstruction of traffic, and mischief.
