UP: Dalit youths thrashed in public by upper caste men on suspicion of stealing cycle in Amethi [Video]

The Amethi Police have filed an FIR against the accused a week after the incident of thrashing in Muswapur area under Munshiganj police station.

Amethi: Even after 73 years of independence, there seems to be no end to caste atrocities in Uttar Pradesh. In a fresh incident, a group of Dalit youths was brutally thrashed by upper caste men on suspicion of stealing a bicycle in Amethi district.

The incident took place at Muswapur Chauraha under Munshiganj police station area in Amethi.

The video of the incident has gone viral on social media. The Dalit victims were tied up and then assaulted by a group of people. The video was said to be shot around June 5.

INitially, Amethi police did not file an FIR in the case despite the victim approaching the police. The families of the victims, all residents of Bandoiya village, were also assaulted by the accused.

The video showed the accused from influential families surrounding the accused and their family members and thrashing them in public.

The accused and the Dalits were reportedly from the same village. It is evident that how emboldened the accused were that they allowed the assault to be recorded on camera.

The victim’s father Kalika Prasad alleged that five men-Binda Yadav, Sachin Yadav, Prem Yadav, Devraj Yadav, And Phool Singh Yadav, brutally thrashed his sons Jaiprakash, Susain and Mohit.

Now, a week after the incident, an FIR has been filed in the case. Police were forced into taking action after the video went viral.

SP Dinesh Singh said he ordered the filing of FIR after the matter came to light. The probe into the case has been handed over to Circle Officer, Guariganj.
