UP CM Yogi Adityanath

NEW DELHI — In a reference to the Muslim community, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath accused them of taking away all the ration prior to 2017 when he assumed power in the state.

“Earlier only those who used to say ‘Abba Jaan’ were digesting the ration,” Adityanath said while addressing a rally in Kushinagar on Sunday. “Under PM Modi’s leadership, there is no place for appeasement politics.”

Abba Jaan is an Urdu word that many Muslim families in the sub-continent use to address their father.

The chief minister’s statement has triggered some angry reactions with many accusing him of playing politics of hate by targetting the Muslim community.

Reacting to the remarks, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said BJP’s election agenda is only “blatant communalism & hatred with all the venom directed towards Muslims.
