Behind the plot to target stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui is a United Kingdom-based associate of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, who outsourced the hit to two men in Delhi, the probe by central intelligence agencies has found.
Incidentally, it was another murder case — that of an Afghan gym owner in Greater Kailash 1 on September 13 — that led the police to one of the shooters. The shooter, who had been recruited by UK-based gangster Rohit Godara, was arrested in a separate case by the Special Task Force in Haryana last month, and made the revelations during questioning.
According to police, following the murder of Afghan national Nadir Shah last month, police arrested 10 people and found that Bishnoi was behind this attack too. “While questioning the men, police found that some of them had also conducted a recce of a prominent hotel in New Friends Colony, but were not aware of their target at the time,” a source said.
This input was shared by central intelligence agencies with the Delhi Police, along with information that a Muslim comedian appeared to be on the hit list of Bishnoi’s gang, though they did not know who it was.
