After Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand’s ‘nameplate’ order along the Kanwar Yatra route, the BJP-ruled Ujjain Municipal Corporation has now directed shop owners to display their names and mobile numbers outside their establishments.

The order by Ujjain Mayor Mukesh Tatwal also stated violators will have to pay Rs 2,000 fine for the first offence and Rs 5,000 if they defy this order for the second time.

The order is aimed at ensuring safety and transparency and not intended to target Muslim shop-keepers, the mayor said.

Tatwal also said the order to display names was passed nearly a year back and was not restricted to just Kanwar Yatra. However, several eatery owners were found not obeying the order and thus, the order was passed again.

According to Ujjain Collector Neeraj Kumar Singh, hotel owners have also been asked to mandatorily put a rate card outside their eateries.
