The Union minister of textiles, Giriraj Singh, reportedly said that had all Muslims been sent to Pakistan in 1947 the situation in the country would have been different.

“The biggest mistake was to let Muslims live here. If the country was partitioned on religious lines, why were Muslims allowed to remain here? Had they not been allowed to live here this situation would not have been created,” Singh, elected from Begusarai Loksabha constituency, told the media.

On Wednesday, the RSS mouthpiece ‘Panchjanya’ posted some quotes attributed to Singh, triggering outrage on social media. This is not the first time the minister has made anti-Muslim hate speech. A video clip of his comments is also shared on social media.

Singh was elected thrice to Parliament and served as the Union minister for Rural Development in Modi’s second cabinet.
