New Delhi: The Aligarh Police in Uttar Pradesh Wednesday apprehended a teenager for allegedly killing a 16-year-old verbally impaired Dalit girl in Kiwlas village of Akrabad tehsil.
Police claimed the juvenile aged 16-17 years confessed to the crime, saying he attempted to have “oral sex” with the girl Sunday afternoon after watching porn. The accused killed the girl after she resisted him, police said.
“He accepted his crime. He said he spent his morning watching porn after which he tried to rape the girl. Since she has speech impairment and he was well aware of it, and because it was noon and no one else was around, he misused the opportunity to force himself on her for oral sex. When she fought back, he pressed her mouth with her dupatta and then strangled her to death,” a senior police officer told ThePrint.
The accused has been charged under IPC sections of rape, murder, and under the Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act has also been invoked.
Additionally, the accused has been charged with 201 of the Indian Penal Code — causing disappearance of evidence of offence — since he dragged and dumped the girl’s body from the crime spot to another place, hid the dupatta and disposed of her slippers. Both the slippers and the dupatta have been recovered by the police.
“What he has done comes under the purview of IPC 376 — rape law. Hence he has been charged with rape,” Aligarh SP (rural) Shubham Patel said.
In a statement released Wednesday by the police, the accused said, “I didn’t want anyone to suspect me. I wanted the police to keep searching the accused in the girl’s village, so I dragged her body and threw her dupatta and slippers at different locations.”
ThePrint had earlier reported that the girl’s family members and villagers pointed fingers towards a ‘suspect’ from a nearby village — who was seen at his field, just a couple of metres away from where the girl had gone to cut fodder.
The accused had gone to water his fields but left it halfway right after 1 pm. The girl’s body was found at a site 20-30 metres away from the tube well he was using to water the field. The post-mortem report shows the time of death as 1 pm.
‘Raped after watching porn’
The girl knew the boy since he would often come to her village, where she had been living with her maternal grandmother, to purchase milk. The boy’s ancestral land was also in Kiwlas village.
Police said, according to the accused’s confession, he had gone to water the fields Sunday at 7 am, but came back home at 8 am to eat. He left again for Kiwlas village on his uncle’s motorcycle with his cousin.
His cousin took the motorcycle and parked it near a tree away from a tube well. After watering the fields for sometime, the accused started watching porn on his mobile phone, police said.
When the 16-year-old girl came to the fields Sunday noon, she went to drink water near the accused’s fields. It is then that the accused took the girl to another person — Jai Singh’s — fields nearby.
There he attempted to rape her by forcing her to open her mouth and when she resisted, he smothered and strangled her to death, police said.
The accused has told the police he took advantage of the fact that no one would hear her. After she died, he dragged her body to a field, owned by one Rajveer Singh, to cover up his crime since Singh is a resident of Kiwlas village.
