Patna: A 27-year-old man died while another sustained severe injuries after both were allegedly beaten up by villagers on suspicion of being thieves at Sabarchak village under Naubatpur police station area in Patna on Thursday. The deceased, identified as Sudhir Kumar, worked as a driver for a cab aggregator and was a resident of Silver Tola.

The incident took place around 2.30am, when Sudhir and his friend Sunny Kumar (26) arrived at Jeetu Chak village to purchase some ganja while on their way home in an SUV.The villagers noticed them in the area and suspected them of being thieves. “Both the men had a scuffle with the villagers, following which they were beaten up badly.

However, the police intervened and rescued them, and admitted them to a nearby hospital. After first-aid, Sudhir was taken to PMCH, where he died during the treatment. Sunny was undergoing treatment at the hospital, and his condition is stable,” said Deepak Kumar, sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) II of Phulwarisharif.

“Four people, including two women, have been arrested while efforts are underway to apprehend others involved in the incident. The police are conducting a thorough investigation into the matter,” he said.
Rajneesh Kumar Kesari, SHO of Naubatpur, said, “A case has been registered at the police station by the deceased’s family.
