New Delhi: The National Commission for Minorities Tuesday issued a notice to the Delhi Police commissioner and a superintendent of police, Ghaziabad, in connection with the ‘Sulli deals’ case.
Sulli Deals was an app, wherein the photos of Muslim women were uploaded without consent, they were objectified and sexualised on the platform.
In a letter, the NCM has asked both police forces to provide the action-taken report within seven days, reminding them that a Parliament question has been raised in the matter.
The letter has sought the number of those associated with the case arrested so far; charges against them; action against the makers of the Sulli Deals app, the number of such cases reported so far and arrests made, and whether the offensive content has been removed from social media platforms.
The Delhi Police’s cyber cell had registered an FIR on 8 July under section 354 A (punishment for sexual assault) and sent a notice to Github, the software development platform on which the website was registered.
In a letter to IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi has said that no ”real” progress has been made despite a case being registered by the Delhi Police in connection with the SulliDeals case.
