THE CALCUTTA High Court on Monday bid farewell to former justice Chitta Ranjan Dash in a full-court reference. Dash graduated in law from Madhusudan Law College, Cuttack, in 1985. He obtained an LLM degree as a non-collegiate candidate at Utkal University. He enrolled as an advocate in 1986 and joined the service in the Cadre of Orissa Superior Judicial Service (Senior Branch).

In 2022, he was transferred to the Calcutta High Court. Interestingly, his farewell speech – in which he revealed that he was – in the past – associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) put him in the limelight. The disclosure led to remarks for and against him. Dash tells Sweety Kumari that he is keen on going back to the RSS, but will not join politics.

Excerpts:

Tell us about your journey at the Calcutta High Court.

My tenure here was just 23 months… in the Calcutta High Court. I retired on May 20. I found the bar very accommodating and cooperative. I love the city, it’s the city of joy. It’s very vibrant.
