A group of people associated with Hindu nationalist paramilitary Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) disrupted the 9th Udaipur Film Festival, organised jointly by the Cinema of Resistance and the Udaipur Film Society at the NLT auditorium in RNT Medical College, Udaipur, on Saturday.

The disruption was triggered by the festival’s decision to dedicate this year’s edition to Professor GN Saibaba, a rights activist described as “martyred by the Brahmanical Hindutva state,” and to the thousands of Palestinian children “martyred by the genocide unleashed by Zionists.”

On the first day of the festival, the collective screened two Palestinian short documentaries, Kofia: A Revolution Through Music and Maloul Celebrates Its Destruction, under the ‘Palestine Package.’

The RSS miscreants, who terrorised the festival delegates and volunteers, hurled abuses at Professor GN Saibaba and branded him a terrorist.

Soon after the Hindutva group created a ruckus, the RNT College administration forcibly stopped the film screenings. Even though the circle inspector was present at the venue, he remained silent when the festival was forcibly stopped and the Hindutva group threatened the organisers, the festival organisers alleged.
