Jabalpur: Right wing activists blocked two buses in Ranjhi in Jabalpur city on Monday and forced them to divert to a police station, alleging that they were ferrying tribals to a church for conversion.
Police took down names, addresses and phone numbers of those in the bus and let them go. It turned out that all of them were Christians. No case was filed, nor was any action taken for the forcible diversion of bus passengers.
Chaos reigned at the police station for hours.
Ranjhi police station in charge Manas Dwivedi said that the buses were carrying residents of Mohgaon in Mandla district on a religious trip to a church near Jabalpur’s Bhawartal Garden (100km away). Just 10km into their return journey, the buses were stopped by Hindutva activists, who alleged a conversion bid and forcibly took them to Ranjha police.
During police questioning, the passengers said that their ancestors had converted to Christianity and they too follow the Christian faith. Police took down their particulars, checked their IDs and said all documents would be sent to the authorities in Mandla district for verification.
