Two more men were arrested by Chhattisgarh Police on Tuesday in connection with the Hindutva mob lynching of three Muslim men from Uttar Pradesh in Chhattisgarh state capital Raipur earlier this month.
With this, the total number of arrests in the case is now four.
The two men arrested on Tuesday are Mahasamund residents Navin Singh Thakur and Mayank Sharma. Thakur works as a driver while the latter is a goods transporter, according to police. Police arrested two others identified as Harsh Mishra and Raja Agarwal on June 22 and June 23 respectively.
All are associated with Hindutva groups. Raja Agarwal is a PR head of BJP Yuva Morcha in Mahasamund district.
The arrests come two weeks after the incident and pressure from family and locals.
On 7 June, Saddam Qureshi (23), Guddu Khan (35), and Chand Miya Khan (23), were brutally attacked by a Hindutva mob while transporting cattle from Chhattisgarh’s Mahasamund to the state capital. The trio were attacked on the Mahanadi river bridge in Arang and assaulted by the cow vigilante mob.
