Punjab IAS officer Parampal Kaur Sidhu, who is also the daughter-in-law of Shiromani Akali Dal leader Sikandar Singh Maluka, has resigned amid reports that she is likely to join the BJP and contest the Lok Sabha elections.

Sources in the government said that Sidhu, currently posted as managing director of the Punjab State Industrial Development Corporation, had sent her resignation to Chief Secretary Anurag Verma. If Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann clears the resignation, it will be sent to the central Department of Personnel and Training.

It is learnt that Maluka, who was an education minister, has been trying to get an SAD ticket for the elections but is unlikely to get it. Since he is 75, Maluka cannot contest the election on a BJP ticket either. Parampal Kaur Sidhu may get the BJP ticket from Bathinda.
