Pro-Hindutva activists staged a protest opposing the fencing of Idgah Maidan in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Shivamogga, forcing the district police to intervene and pacify them.

A group of activists began dharna at Idgah Maidan, demanding the removal of fencing. The place was meant for public use, and hundreds of vehicles were parked daily. However, all of a sudden, some people had placed poles, stopping the entry of vehicles. The fencing should be removed immediately, they demanded.

The protesters had a heated argument with the police. They wanted to know how the police could allow the fencing without any permission from the authorities concerned.

Superintendent of Police, Shivamogga, G.K. Mithun Kumar, visited the spot and spoke to the protesters. He appealed to them to withdraw the protest, assuring them that the fencing would be removed by late in the evening. He also sought the people’s cooperation in maintaining peace and order in the city.

The police removed the fence by 7.30 p.m.
