With the weather coming back to a decent temperatures, there are more opportunities for Pearland residents to gather for more outdoor activities.

The Pearland Town Center on Saturday will host a free yoga event with the Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh USA, a nonprofit that aims to coordinate the Hindu American community to practice, preserve and advance ideals and values of Hindu Dharma.

Surya Namaskat Yajna — also known as yoga for health, health for humanity yogathon — will be held from 9:30-11 a.m. Jan. 27 at the town center, 11200 W Broadway Street.

Surya Namaskat is a combination of yoga postures, called asanas, performed in a predetermined sequence of 10 steps in appreciation of solar energy. This activity provides a variety of positive mental and physical health benefits, according to Sonal Gupta, executive director of the Pearland chapter of HSS.
