The new criminal laws recently cleared by both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, which have been termed as “citizen centric” by the Union government, are actually worse than what the British had given to this country.

From deleting the guidelines set by the Supreme Court in the famous DK Basu case pertaining to the arrest of an accused, to increasing the maximum possible custody period from 15 to 90 days, the new laws give police unbridled power while reducing accountability on their part at the same time.
