The Jammu Kashmir government has identified 1,298.28 kanals (162 acres) of land at nine different locations for the development of satellite townships across the Jammu Kashmir.
This comes in addition to the 4,200 kanals (525 acres) already designated by development authorities in Srinagar and Jammu.
The identified sites include Padgampora (Pulwama), Watapora (Bandipora), Bhalwal (Jammu), and Chatterhama (Srinagar).
In response to a query from PDP’s Pulwama MLA, Waheed-Ur-Rehman Para, the National Conference-led government revealed the details of the land allocation.
Para, however, raised concerns about the government’s move, pointing out that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had earlier dismissed the idea of such a proposal.
Speaking outside the Assembly, Para called for transparency in the allocation of land, questioning who the beneficiaries would be and stressing the need for clarity on the matter.
He also expressed concerns over the potential for demographic shifts and environmental impacts that such a development could cause, condemning the government’s decision as contradictory and lacking sufficient public explanation.
