Two days before Eid-e-Milad, a peace meeting was held when communal violence-hit Nagamangala in Karnataka’s Mandya district on Saturday, and during the meeting, it was revealed that the property damage in the violence was about Rs 2.5 crore.
The district administration convened the meeting, at which Mandya district in-charge minister N Cheluvarayaswamy urged the citizens to maintain peace and harmony.
He also asked the Hindu community to refrain from holding a Ganesh immersion procession on Monday, which coincides with the Eid-e-Milad festival.
Home Minister G Parameshwara said that the situation in Nagamangala has returned to normal, and preventive measures are in place.
While the BJP has formed a fact-finding committee to ascertain the reason behind the violence, Parameshwara said that the state government will consider their report if it provides new insights into the clashes.
