13 September 2023 – A 22-year-old Muslim youth from Rajasthan’s Tijara succumbed to injuries on Tuesday night after being subjected to a hate crime last week. Wakeel Ahmed was abducted from Tijara Chowk while returning home on the night of September 8 and attacked by goons.
Ahmed hails from Haryana’s Bilaspur and was living in Mehrana village of Rajasthan. He is survived by three girls and his wife, the family informed.
According to eyewitnesses and villagers, Wakeel was abducted by BJP leader Purshottam Saini and his goons and taken to a jungle nearby. Later the villagers found him with injuries and they rushed him to a local hospital before being referred to Jaipur.
He was declared Dead on the night of 12 September. This is the second case of mob lynching in the Alwar District of Rajasthan in less than 30 days. Last month, on August 19, a 27-year-old Muslim man was allegedly beaten to death while two others were injured on suspicion of chopping wood.
“Wakeel was a simple man with no conflict with others and was the sole bread earner to his family. He was targeted because of his faith,” Saleem, a relative of Ahmed told Maktoob. The incident has sent shockwaves through the Muslim community and raised concerns about safety in the area.
Sher Mohammad, a socio-political activist, explained that on 27 August, two groups were engaged in a small communal skirmish. Although police made arrests, BJP leader and Hindutva figure Purshottam Saini delivered hate speeches and organized a Mahapanchayat regarding the clash to take revenge.
