A Muslim youth was beaten to death by Bajrang Dal members in Majhola, Uttar Pradesh’s Moradabad, on Monday after the mob accused him of cow slaughter.
The killing of Shahideen Qureshi, a resident of Asalatpura and 37-year-old, has sparked tensions in the area.
Police have registered a case against the attackers following a complaint by Shahideen’s brother Shahjad. No arrests have been made so far.
After accusing the Muslim youth of cow slaughter, the Hindutva mob beat him with sticks and rained punches and kicks, leaving him unconscious. A purported video of the horrific attack was circulated online — mostly by the Hindutva vigilantes — on Tuesday.
Shahideen was eventually rescued from the mob by police, who rushed him to a nearby hospital.
However, despite treatment, he died on Monday night. His body was later handed over to his family.
The deceased Muslim youth was a bodybuilder with a passion for fitness and had participated in several competitions.
Shahideen, who lived in Asalatpur locality, is survived by wife Rizwana and three sons — Aaram (13), Aashi (11) and Ibjaan (9).
