Cadres of Hindutva student outfit Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) physically attacked and verbally abused the Muslim students during the University General Body Meeting (UGBM) at Hyderabad University, students alleged on Wednesday.

“Muslim Students Federation expresses deep concern and outrage at the incidents of verbal and physical attacks on Muslim minority students by right wing students in the aftermath of the Students Union UGBM. It is unacceptable that students are being targeted because of their religious beliefs political ideology and identity, and we strongly condemn these acts of violence and hate,” read the statement by Muslim Students Federation (MSF).

MSF is the student wing of Indian Union Muslim League.

MSF alleged that their members were specifically targeted by ABVP who created ruckus before the UGBM was officially initiated.

“We were called terrorists and abused with deregatory and hate filled remarks like goli maro salon ko and go to Pakistan,” MSF alleged.

“We also condemn the inaction and bias of the University security as they intimidated us and portrayed as outsiders. We are not going to bow down for such hate and intimidations.
As members of the academic community, we believe in the fundamental values of diversity, inclusion, and respect for all,” read MSF’s statement.

“We stand in solidarity with our Muslim colleagues and friends, and we are committed to creating a safe and welcoming environment for all students on our campus,” it said.

The students group calls on the university administration to take immediate action to address these incidents and ensure the safety of all students.
