New Delhi: 30-year-old car mechanic, Munawwar, was denied bail for three months as the court was misinformed by the police that he was a ”dread criminal”, who was booked under the stringent Gangsters Act in 2015 at the Akbarabad police station of Amroha district, which does not exist.

While hearing the bail application on Saturday, the Allahabad High Court exposed the falsehood. It said that Amit Kumar, the sub-inspector of Kotwali Police Station in Bijnor district of West UP, misinformed (through additional government advocate-AGA) about a case having been registered at a non-existing police station. The court issued a show-cause notice to Kumar. The next hearing is on 8 July.

Manavvar was arrested from his home in Roorkee by Bijnor police on the evening of March 31 when he was busy playing with his seven-month-old son. He was accused of being part of an interstate auto-lifter gang.

During previous hearings, Munawar’s counsel had informed the court that his client was falsely foisted with the recovery of some cars along with motorcycles, along with a number of other co-accused.
