PATNA: An 18-year-old youth identified as Mohammed Israel, was allegedly attacked by some people for refusing to chant ‘Jai Sri Ram’ at a village under Mehsi police station in East Champaran district on June 2.

The youth is undergoing treatment at a private hospital.

East Champaran SP Navind Chandra Jha said on Thursday that an FIR was lodged against six people—Ram Gopal, Rahul Barnawal, Lakhan, Prince, Abhishek and Nitesh Singh—all stated to be residents of Bathna village in East Champaran district. “Raids are on to nab the culprits,” he added.

Youth’s brother, Tahir, alleged that Israel was attacked when he had gone to charge his mobile phone in a nearby shop as there was no electricity in the house due to hailstorm and rain on June 2. Israel was forced by the accused to chant ‘Jai Sri Ram’. He was brutally assaulted by the accused when he refused to follow their diktat, he added.

According to the FIR lodged with the Mehsi police station, the accused also tried to slit the Israel’s throat with a sharp-edged weapon. His brother said that Israel was found in unconcious state and was subsequently rushed to the Sadar hospital in Motihari from where he was later referred to the SKMCH in Muzaffapur.
