A man urinated on the face of a Dalit labourer while he was taking an afternoon lap in Lucknow, triggering outrage. A video of the act went viral on social media.

Rajkumar Rawat was sleeping after his work when the accused, Sanjay Maurya, urinated on his face to wake him up.

Rawat’s family approached the police and filed a complaint. The police said they took note of the video and that the accused would be arrested.

“We have received information about this case. The video is from yesterday (Sunday). The victim’s family has filed a complaint. We are investigating the case and the accused will be arrested,” DCP West Zone Durgesh Kumar said.

In a similar incident in July last year, a video went viral on social media, where the man, Pravesh Shukla, was seen urinating on a tribal man in Madhya Pradesh’s Sidhi. Shukla was arrested after the video surfaced and was charged under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and the stringent National Security Act (NSA).

The incident triggered a nationwide uproar, prompting the then Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to call the victim to his official residence and wash his feet as an act of atonement.
