A 40-year-old man was lynched by local residents in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr district late on Wednesday night after he allegedly shot his neighbour dead at the latter’s house in Chirori Rani Katyani village over a financial dispute. One person has been arrested in connection with the incident.

The Dibai police have lodged a First Information Report (FIR) against three people for lynching Vinod after he killed Nem Singh, 35, while the two were consuming alcohol.

Ram Karan, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Dibai), said, “One person has been arrested in this connection while raids are being conducted to nab the other accused. Nem Singh had taken Rs 10,000 from Vinod and while they were having drinks, a row erupted over this amount and Vinod shot at Nem Singh with a country-made pistol. Hearing the gunshot, Singh’s family members and villagers rushed to the room and overpowered Vinod. The angry crowd then attacked him with iron rods.”

The police said both were rushed to the Primary Health Centre in the village where they were pronounced dead. “Following the two deaths, we have deployed adequate police force in the village to ensure peace. The main accused in the lynching incident has been arrested while raids are being conducted to nab the others,” said Shlok Kumar, Senior Superintendent of Police.
