Ahmedabad: The principal of LD College of Arts, Mahipatsinh Chavda, had to step in to prevent a violent clash between members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), and the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), the student wing of the Congress. The dispute arose after a first-year student was beaten for two consecutive days by ABVP members over a disagreement regarding a WhatsApp group.

According to sources, the student had created a WhatsApp group for students, but an ABVP member was not made the admin of the group. As a result, the student was beaten by ABVP members on Wednesday and Thursday. The NSUI students then intervened, siding with the victimised student and objecting to the incident.

Chavda attempted to mediate and find a compromise between the two groups. However, both the groups insisted on filing police complaints. Sources said that Chavda persuaded the students from both groups not to escalate the trivial matter and to reach a compromise.

“Students from both the groups have now agreed not to stretch this matter long,” Chavda told TOI.
