A Christmas crib arranged for celebrations at Government Boys School at Thathamangalam in Kerala’s Palakkad was found vandalized on Monday days after three local leaders of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) were arrested for allegedly disrupting Christmas celebrations at another school in the district.
The school authorities have filed a complaint with the Chittur police station regarding the incident.
The first incident occurred at the Nallepilly Government Upper Primary School on Friday, where students and teachers were participating in festivities after their semester exams.
VHP Palakkad district secretary K Anil Kumar, district samyojak Susasanan and Nalleppilly panchayat president K Velayudan allegedly barged into the school, questioned the celebration and verbally threatened teachers. The VHP members questioned the school as to why the school does not celebrate Sree Krishna Jayanti.
They were arrested under charges including promoting enmity between groups based on religion, criminal trespass, and intimidation. Local court remanded them to judicial custody on Saturday, said police.
